The heart of the children's theatre in the centre of Kyiv
Every Ukrainian theatregoer knows “The Kyiv Academic theatre of the young viewer” on Lipki. It is the only drama theatre for children in the capital. It is located in the historic centre of Kyiv, at 15/17 Lipska Street. It is this location that gave the building its popular name - Theatre on Lipki. Founded back in 1924, it opened on 9 November with a performance of Mowgli by Rudyard Kipling. Last year, “The theatre of the young viewer” celebrated its 100th anniversary with numerous premieres and performances of well-known productions, which became a symbol of resilience, loyalty to traditions and openness to the new.
“The theatre of the young viewer” has two stages:
- a large stage with 408 seats; and
- a small, intimate stage with 80 seats.
The Theatre's repertoire is aimed at different age groups. Here, kids get to know magical fairy tales, schoolchildren learn about the classics of school literature in a visually rich form, and adults immerse themselves in deep philosophical and life stories. Because in each of us lives a young viewer who wants to be surprised, dream and learn about the world. That is why the productions of the Theatre for Young Audiences offer not only emotional pleasure, but also aesthetic education and space for reflection.
A theatre that grows with its audience
