Performances by the cultural project ‘MUR’ are events of national significance. In their new production, ‘REBELLION’, the artists have attempted to take a fresh look at the history of gaining independence during the Soviet era. As always, the result is innovative, bold, unusual, and captivating. This is definitely not to be missed. Find your city on the poster!

Theatrical form of resistance

‘REBELLION’ is a new musical performance from the cultural project MUR, a chronological and semantic continuation of another popular and resonant performance, You [Romanticism]. It is the next step in a frank conversation about Ukraine's path to freedom, a story about gaining independence. About the day that Ukrainians had been striving for for generations. Against all odds.

The performance ‘REBELLION’ covers events from the 1950s to 2001, intertwining personal destinies with key moments in the recent history of Ukraine – from the condemnation of the cult of Stalin at the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1956 to the creation of the People's Movement of Ukraine. MUR presents history in the form of musical compositions and short conversational interludes. It does so anachronistically, allowing us to see history not as a dry chronicle, but as a living process – with pain, ruptures, hope and an inner drive towards freedom.

“REBELLION” in your city

The new play from “MUR” is an opportunity to see Ukrainian contemporary history from a different perspective. Here, figures who became the voice, conscience, and backbone of Ukrainian resistance come to life on stage. Among them are Ivan Svitlychny, Vyacheslav Chornovil, Viktor Kuksa, Vasyl Stus, Alla Horska, Ivan Dziuba, Leonid Kravchuk and others. This is the story of people who fought for the right to be Ukrainian at a time when it was punishable.

The title of the new play comes from the archaic word ‘rebellion,’ which was used in ancient documents to refer to popular uprisings and protests. In the production by MUR, rebellion is not just a revolt, but an inner need not to remain silent, not to obey, not to betray oneself. So come to the new play ‘REBELLION’ by MUR – recharge, be inspired, and remember, so you don't forget!
