Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theater — tickets and billboard 2026

June 2026

The Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theatre is currently the only functioning theatre in the Donetsk region and one of the oldest theatres in Left-Bank Ukraine. Despite the tragic events, the troupe has not lost hope and continues to delight audiences with interesting and relevant performances. Come and see for yourself!

Art that weathered the storm

The history of the Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theatre is a story of resilience, love for the stage, and faith in Ukrainian art. After the tragic events in Mariupol in the spring of 2022, part of the troupe found the strength to unite and resume rehearsals and performances in a new location – in the city of Uzhhorod, on the stage of the Sherehiy Brothers Transcarpathian Music and Drama Theatre. It was there that the theatre began a new life, becoming a symbol of the revival of culture in Donetsk Oblast.

In addition, the Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theatre tours extensively throughout the country. Therefore, its performances can be seen in Uzhhorod, Lutsk, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, Kamyanske, and other cities. So look for your city on the poster and hurry to book your tickets!

A theatre that continues to live and create

After its restoration, the Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theatre developed a new repertoire:

  • ‘Switcher’, a stand-up performance based on a play by Nina Zakhozhenko;
  • ‘Gone with the Wind’, a love story based on a play by Lyudmila Timoshenko;
  • ‘The Enemy's Cosmetics’, a psychological thriller based on a play by Amélie Nohomb;
  • ‘Mina Mazailo’, a satirical comedy based on a play by Mykola Kulish;
  • ‘The Duck’, a family fairy tale based on a play by Marta Gushnovska;
  • “Stunned Tetyana”, a black comedy based on plays by Lasha Bugadze;
  • “DECAMERON”, an 18+ comedy based on Giovanni Boccaccio’s novellas “The Decameron”;
  • ‘Saint Nicholas’s Postmen’, a family play based on a play by Marta Gurin;
  • ‘Vertep of Donetsk Region’, a nativity play with a choir of carollers based on Panteleimon Kulish's play ‘Irodo's Moroka’.

These productions are vivid proof that the theatre has not only survived, but has also managed to reveal itself in a new way – to reflect on the experience of war, loss and hope through art.

The Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theatre continues to create. For example, in 2025, the theatre presented a new premiere – ‘Night in Lisbon’, based on the novel by Erich Maria Remarque.

The Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theatre is not just a stage. It is a living memory of a home that remains in the heart, and at the same time, a new page in Ukrainian theatre, written in the language of courage, faith and love.
