CRIPPLES
‘Golden Gate’ Kyiv Municipal Theatre
New writing / 1h20

This story is about teenagers, not their illnesses. Two cool boys who see themselves as adults. What can two adults talk about? For sure they will talk about girls and the future in which there are no hospitals.
They will discover a simple truth - it’s better to spend one’s life making someone happy instead of wasting it trying to change things that can’t be changed.

The show is based on the play by modern German playwright Sergej Gössner "Mongos". Cripples is an attempt to draw attention of the Ukrainian society to the issue of social inclusion of disabled people. This show was designed to be adaptable to different spaces and to be performed at schools.
‘Golden Gate’ is a municipal theatre established in 1979. Today, the theatre supports and promotes young stage directors, actors, choreographers and set designers; produces works of contemporary Ukrainian and European drama; collaborates with international theatre makers; and discusses the important social issues of today.

THE WEDDING
‘Word and Voice’, Lviv Municipal Theatre, Art Research and Educational Centre
Contemporary music theatre/ 1h15

Dramaturgy of the show is based on 28 ancient Ukrainian wedding songs that are intertwined with imaginative scenography and costumes to create a fragile, shimmering and intricately executed theatre performance. The Wedding is not a reproduction of traditional wedding rites. The show creators speak in a contemporary language about universal things that have been, are and will be relevant at all times, for all genders and all nationalities - love, human relationships, woman and man, children and parents.
‘The Wedding’ was presented at national and international festivals: Golden Lion (Lviv, Ukraine), Porto Franko (Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine), INNOWICA (Poland), Melpomene of Tavria (Kherson, Ukraine).
‘Word and Voice’ (founded in 2010 in Lviv in Western Ukraine) is led by singer-actress and artistic director Natalia Polovynka. The centre interprets Ukrainian traditions by creating contemporary theatre and music performances, and also runs laboratories and practical workshops.

THE MAP OF IDENTITY / HATE SPEECH
Anton Romanov’s workshop ‘Nontheatre’
Performance / 0h50

The Map of Identity / Hate Speech is a participatory and performative monologue of a naked and seemingly vulnerable human being about losing one’s identity, and an attempt to understand the reasons of one’s intolerance towards identities of others.
Anton Romanov was born and grew up in Crimea, Ukraine, and moved to Kyiv after Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014. He is Russian with Ukrainian citizenship. Anton worked as stage director and performer in various theatres across Ukraine. Anton is openly gay.
“I’m trying to define and broaden the boundaries of performance art. There is almost nothing left of traditional theatre in this show. Perhaps this is an anti-performance or a-performance, or something entirely different. This is an attempt to understand one’s own identity and to identify others. The show will test the audience’s sincerity and courage, and will require them to take responsibility for their actions.”

KITTEN. A very dark comedy. (The Lieutenant of Inishmore)
Wild Theatre
Contemporary theatre/ 2h30 with interval

Paedric is a cruel and ruthless murderer who holds the whole of Ireland in fear. He knows no mercy. Like a hurricane, he rushes around the country sweeping everything in his way. There is only one creature in the whole world to which Patrick has real feelings. That creature is in trouble, and Paedric is now craving revenge…
Ireland and Ukraine have a lot in common in terms of history and nationalist movements. ‘Kitten’ re-actualises McDonagh’s black comedy by transferring it, geographically and culturally, to rural Ukraine. This hilarious and brutal production explores and mocks the formation of national identities and ideas, and the dark sides of their radical representations.
Winner of Taking the Stage 2017 – the British Council’s annual theatre programme.
Wild Theatre is one of the most popular independent theatres in Ukraine, founded in February 2016. It creates acute social performances and that surprise and shock. ‘Not recommended for children and people with fragile psyche.’

FALL ON PLUTO
Sashko Brama and Les Kurbas Lviv Academic Theatre
Contemporary theatre / 1h20

Fall on Pluto is a daring look at value of life from the perspective of a person who is trapped in time and their painful experiences and memories. A person who is neither fully alive, nor dead yet.
Under pressure from routine life and popular culture, psychological and existential problems of senility are not subject to discussion in many societies. Fall on Pluto’s creators spent over a year in close communication with tenants of a geriatric centre in Lviv. This experience was transformed into a performance that explores the infinite soul's yearning for a perfect world. The show combines documentary and puppet theatre, dance techniques and spatial audio design.
The project was supported by the Goethe-Institut, British Council Ukraine and Lviv City Council.
Sashko Brama is a playwright and stage director of experimental theatre based on a documentary framework. His work was presented at festivals like Radikal Jung (Munich, Germany), GOGOLFESТ (Kyiv, Ukraine), Divadelna Nitra (Nitra, Slovakia), GLOBALIZE COLOGNE (Cologne, Germany), Die in

TRALFAMADORE
RB&Co
Contemporary dance / 1h00

The nature and the narrative of this show are best described with an excerpt from ‘Slaughterhouse-Five’ by Kurt Vonnegut: …There are no telegraphs on Tralfamadore. But you're right: each clump of symbols is a brief, urgent message describing a situation, a scene. We Tralfamadorians read them all at once, not one after the other. There isn't any particular relationship between all the messages, except that the author has chosen them carefully, so that, when seen all at once, they produce an image of life that is beautiful and surprising and deep. There is no beginning, no middle, no end, no suspense, no moral, no causes, no effects. What we love in our books are the depths of many marvelous moments seen all at one time.
Tralfamadore was first presented at Contemporary dance festival ZelyonkaFest 2018 (Kyiv, Ukraine)
RB&Co is a project born from the research of contemporary dance improvisation art in Kyiv. The base for this work was created by seven consecutive festivals of dance improvisation PushOK and 21 dance events The IMPRO STORE, curated, inspired and organised by Ruslan and Marina Baranov. The team of Tralfamadore is formed of professional dancers who have been taking part in, and contributing to these
